Termites are one of those hidden pests you may not realise you have as they can destroy and chew through flooring, wallpaper and wood totally undetected. They are detritivores as they like to feed upon dead plants and trees. An organic fiber found in wood and plant matter called cellulose is where termites get their nutrients.
More closely related to cockroaches, termites look more like ants and live in colonies which consist of the reproductive male and females, soldiers, workers and Semi-mature young (aka nymphs). Each type differ in shape, size and function that they are responsible for. They never holiday or sleep and will work 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The female termite can produce up to 40,000 eggs a day.
To aid with preventing the infestations of termites there needs to be a degree of prevention and controlling needs to be met with the building manager or owner of the establishment i.e. plumbing or roof leaks being fixed as quickly as possible, reduce the food source such as moisture and wood piles.
We do have non-chemical and chemical treatments available and will advise on being able to view the colony.
